It seems perfect, and you are excited to show it to the world and turn the internet on its head with your post. But wait!! How do you know you are not missing anything? Have you gone through the blog post checklist? What is that, you ask? I’ll tell you all about blog post checklist that you need to go through before you hit publish.

checklist

A checklist is a list of all things that you must consider or do to accomplish a particular task. Coming to blog posts, this list gets critical and longer, of course. I said longer because our perception and our blog posts vary and thus may lead to many points on our checklists. But here, I will walk you through the most efficient blog post checklist that is useful for any kind of blog post. You’ll get know what makes a blog post a kickass blog post.

#1 Your blog post title

  • Length of the title: The length of the title is something you have to think through before publishing the post. Maintain an optimal length, somewhere between 40 to 69 characters. Don’t let the numbers trick you. If your title crosses the 69 characters mark, it will be cut short in the search engine results leaving the readers clueless about your post and thus reducing your click-throughs.
  • Catchiness: Having a catchy Title gets most of the work done as it leaves a lasting impression on the readers and stays with them on their minds.
  • Keyword: Make sure your main keyword is included in your Title. It is going make all the difference when it comes to search engines ranking your page or determining its intent. The more unchanged the keyword is in your Title, the better.

#2 Keyword Synonyms

Your blog post must not ride on the shoulders of the keyword alone. Google has other related keywords or synonyms if you will, associated with your main keyword. Find these synonyms and include these in your blog post.

Keyword Synonyms

#3 Positioning keywords and synonyms

Now’s the time to hunt your blog post for any misplaced keywords. See whether your keywords and synonyms are relevant to the sentences where they are placed. If you plan to boost SEO quickly by stuffing keywords, let me tell you, that won’t work. Maintain a natural flow in your writing and focus on providing what your content promises.

#4 External and internal links

Include links to related posts on authority sites. Take the number to be at least 2. Also, include links(2 to 3 max.) to your previous posts if they are related to this post. Serves both, you with SEO and the reader with an idea of where to go from here.

#5 Images used in the blog post

  • Giving proper creditsIf you are planning to use pictures from the internet, you may want to go for images which are licensed for commercial purposes. Check here.
  • Relevance: Is the image actually required to be there? Make sure your image doesn’t seem out of place with the text either contrasting or having no relevance to the image whatsoever.
  • Keyword: The image filename, Title, descriptive tag should contain the main keyword of your blog post.
  • Source: Its better if you are using a screenshot or an image captured by you. Using stock images can result in the decrease of your site conversions. It can well decrease by 95%.

#6 Use of Sub-headings using H2 and H3 tags

The use of sub-heads makes a ton of difference. You could be well explaining a particular thing, but without the sub-headings, your post may not hold your reader for long. Readers usually scan the posts before diving into it, and sub-headings help to scan. It also serves as a tactic for SEO as H2 and H3 are loved more than the rest by the search engines.

#7 Bullet points or Numberings

When you have a long text in your post, it is highly recommended to use bullet points in your post to break the long text into shorter paragraphs. Most of the readers want to go through your post quickly in one go. These bullet points will be quite a help.

#8 Tone of your Blogpost

You need to maintain a tone that is suitable for your audience. Write your post keeping your audience’s profile in mind. Maintaining a conversational tone helps to engage the readers and keeps them from being distracted.

#9 The Beginning

Your readers are probably going to decide whether to stay on this post or leave based off your first paragraph. You might want to start off with something catchy that would entertain the readers and make them dig deeper for more. This is the place where you need to put all your creativity and emotions to connect with the readers. Here, you either win them or lose them.

#10 Call of action

In the end, you don’t want your reader just to smile and walk away. You want them to stay and engage with your site or blog. What can you do?

  • Ask them to leave comments: Inviting the readers for discussion on your article or questions related to your article.
  • Ask them to check out another related article on your site: This will improve your crawl rate. It is a good practice to provide further suggestions to the readers to follow by providing links to one of your recent articles.
